Better Than Ever: 5 Key Updates to ControlUp Analyze Logon Duration

You’re in IT and you’re charged with keeping people productive, no matter where, when, or how they work?  ControlUp’s Analyze Logon Duration script is extra-important for you. Here’s why.

When someone on your team, whether they’re working remotely, in the office, or anywhere else, tries to log in to their work environment and just sees “please wait” or the so-called “spinning wheel of death,” preventing them from doing their jobs, they get frustrated. Agitated. Possibly angry. Their productivity is impeded. Work can’t get done. Deadlines get moved. The company’s bottom line is affected (and not in a good way). In short, it’s not good.

The ControlUp “Analyze Logon Duration” script (ALD, for short) is a game-changer here. This powerful tool gives IT administrators the ability to quickly spot the causes of slow logons, fix them in a flash, and get people back on track, fast.

Today, we’re delighted to announce that we’ve made “better” better than ever. We’ve made five key changes to our Analyze Logon Duration script that will make spotting problems (and remediating them quickly) a snap. IT admins can assess problems quickly, stop the offending processes, and get work-from-anywhere teams back to being productive.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Citrix Resultant Set of Policies (RSoP) analysis: The ALD Script now captures the start and end times for the Citrix Group Policy engine to calculate the RSoP during user logon and instead of showing this in the output as “gap time” now shows the total time it took when running the script
  • Resultant Set of Policies Logging (RSoP Logging): Windows RSoP logging can have a significant impact on the overall logon time for a user. The output of the ALD Script now shows if RSoP logging is enabled or disable for a user to assist you with pinpointing possible logon duration slowness
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Filter duration analysis: ALD can identify individual WMI filters applied during logon, their duration, and whether the call was successful or not
  • Individual AppX Package Load Times: AppX packages can add delay to the logon process and ALD can help identify how long each individual AppX package took
  • Loopback Processing Mode state: Group Policy misconfigurations can slow logons and ALD now reports on the current loopback processing mode

Each of these enhancements will make it easier for you to deliver a better work-from-anywhere experience for your teams, no matter where they are.

Out of the box, ControlUp offers the tools and technology to produce remarkably detailed reporting on logon durations for users. Metrics on overall logon duration, profile load times, group policy load time, desktop load time, and more, are all displayed in real time, right as an end-user logs on.

Since its introduction in 2015, ControlUp has been adding enhancements and improvements to the ALD script. With each addition, it’s grown more and more useful and its adoption has grown exponentially. ALD breaks logons down into granular phases, based on technology or logon processes, and all of this keeps end-users productive, reduces the stress on your IT team, and simply makes things BETTER.

What are you waiting for? Grab some snacks, and dig in to our deepest deep dive ever!
